THREE THE LAST FOR TOBEY MAGUIRE?
Thu, Nov 30, 2006
According to StarPlus News, Spider-Man 3 may be the last for Tobey Maguire. “This might be a good place to stop,” says Maguire. “I am not tied contractually to any more Spider-Man movies. I am not completely closed to the idea of another one if it made sense, but I would say the odds were in favor of this being the last one.”
Maguire may not be the only one planning on leaving the lucrative franchise. “I’m not the type of actress who does movie after movie,” announced co-star Kirsten Dunst who reportedly would leave the franchise to take up art.
It is unclear how Sony would handle the exiting of their stars, but rumors of recasting were rampant during the filming of Spider-Man 2 when Maguire was complaining of back problems. Would the webslinger franchise continue with another actor in the role? It wouldn’t be the first time a franchise continued without its lead. Just look at Superman, Batman and the James Bond films to name a few.
