Sideshow Collectibles has posted photos and began taking pre-orders for the 12″ Spider-Man 3 Venom. The figure is being developed by Medicom Toy and will retail for $99.00. The Limited Edition collectible is scheduled to ship the second quarter of 2007.
Additional figures that have been announced are Black Suited Spider-Man and Spider-Man which will have similar release dates and prices.
Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee has been named one of the most influential living Americans by
Atlantic Monthly in their December issue. The founder of Marvel Comics beat out such heavyweights as Bill Clinton, Clint Eastwood, Tiger Woods and Playboy founder Hugh Hefner to tie with legendary comedian Bill Cosby for the number twenty-six spot on a list of one-hundred. Microsoft founder Bill Gates topped the seminal list.
In addition to Spider-Man, Stan Lee was behind the creation of such legendary characters as the X-Men, the Hulk and the Fantastic Four. Lee recently founded POW! Entertainment which currently has over forty projects in various stages of development which will all carry the “Stan Lee Presents” moniker. POW! Entertainment’s first release is the animated DVD Mosaic which follows the adventures of a young girl with chameleon-like powers that she must use to save the world. Lee can next be seen in his usual cameo appearance in Spider-Man 3.
All you would-be web-slingers should check out
“The Spider-Man Handbook: The Ultimate Training Manual Quirk Books” by Seth Grahame-Smith with a foreword by Stan Lee. In the book you’ll learn such all-important elements as “How to Build a Web-Shooter,” “How to Survive a Pumpkin-Bomb Attack” and “How to Rescue Children from a School Bus That’s Teetering over the Edge.” It even contains practical knowledge on living the mundane life of your alter-ego with suggestions on “How To Live on a Meager Income” and “How to Deal with a Nightmare Boss.”
In the chapter entitled “How to Treat a Radioactive Spider Bite,” Smith suggests getting professional help. ”You may be a super hero, but this is no time for heroics,” writes Smith. ”Since most spiders use venom to immobilize their prey, it’s likely that you’ll experience sever muscle cramping, respiratory difficulty, even partial paralysis in the first one to two hours…Get to an emergency room - and don’t get there by web-slinging from building to building, or you’re likely to wind up pancaked on Fifth Avenue.”
With a tongue-in-cheek approach to the lore of Spider-Man and some practical advise thrown in for good measure, “The Spider-Man Handbook” is a must read for all you aspiring super-heroes.
