Superhero Hype is reporting that Sony Pictures has approached original
Spider-Man screenwriter David Koepp to write a fourth installment of the popular franchise. The studio reportedly approached Koepp after seeing an early cut of
Spider-Man 3 and the reaction from footage shown at the recent Consumer Electronics Show.
In addition to Spider-Man, Koepp recently penned the fourth installment of the long-awaited Indiana Jones film for Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. Koepp also wrote the screenplays for such hit films as War of the Worlds, Jurassic Park and Mission: Impossible.
Spider-Man 3 producer Grant Curtis has confirmed that the rumored “fourth villain” is actually the black symbiote suit Spider-Man dons that brings out his dark side. Though the struggle within that Peter Parker/Spider-Man must go through is an intricate part of the story, the villains of the film are Sandman, Venom and New Goblin.
As for the fear that having three villains in the film may be too much, Curtis assures us that each villain in the story is essential to the story. Whether it be revenge on Flint Marko/Sandman for killing Uncle Ben, his competitive relationship with Eddie Brock/Venom or the continuous deterioration of Peter’s relationship with Harry Osborn/New Goblin for the death of Harry’s father, Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in the original film. Throw in a possible love-triangle with the introduction of Gwen Stacy, and the new film promises to bring the continuing story of Peter Parker to a resounding head.
As for the possibility of a fourth film, Curtis explains that the creative team behind Spider-Man 3 are focused on the May 4th release date and are putting all their efforts into the third installment.
