According to StarPlus News, Spider-Man 3 may be the last for Tobey Maguire. “This might be a good place to stop,” says Maguire. “I am not tied contractually to any more Spider-Man movies. I am not completely closed to the idea of another one if it made sense, but I would say the odds were in favor of this being the last one.”
Maguire may not be the only one planning on leaving the lucrative franchise. “I’m not the type of actress who does movie after movie,” announced co-star Kirsten Dunst who reportedly would leave the franchise to take up art.
It is unclear how Sony would handle the exiting of their stars, but rumors of recasting were rampant during the filming of Spider-Man 2 when Maguire was complaining of back problems. Would the webslinger franchise continue with another actor in the role? It wouldn’t be the first time a franchise continued without its lead. Just look at Superman, Batman and the James Bond films to name a few.
In a recent interview with Wizard Magazine, Kirsten Dunst discussed working with actress Bryce Dallas Howard who plays Gwen Stacy, a possible new love interest for Peter Parker. “I loved working with Bryce,” explains Dunst. “I wish we had had more scenes together, but it was nice to share (leading lady) duty. To have another girl on the set was nice to experience all of it with me. I can’t say who I worked with more (among new co-stars Howard, Topher Grace and Thomas Haden Church) than the other because that kind of alludes to the story, but I feel like I’m even going to be surprised when I see this movie because there are so many elements that I’m not a part of, so I have no idea visually how they’re going to look.”

According to
IMDB, a
Spider-Man 3 trailer containing a watermark from trailer house The Ant Farm was leaked to the internet by an unknown source. Though the clip was not selected as the official trailer, additional footage not meant to be shown to the public has infuriated the filmmakers. Representatives of The Ant Farm insist the leak didn’t originate from their company. ”There are basic flaws within the system that make it impossible to guarantee security,” states The Ant Farm co-CEO Barbara Glazer. ”If you don’t test them, you stand a much better chance of keeping a trailer secure.” Glazer, referring to the process of testing trailers on consumers, suggested other sources of the leak including market research groups, dubbing companies, filmmakers and individuals within the studio itself.
Spider-Man 3 star Tobey Maguire’s fianc?e Jennifer Meyer gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Meyer, a jewelry designer and daughter of Universal Studios executive Ron Meyer, and Maguire began dating in 2003 and became engaged earlier this year. This is the first child for the couple.
