KIRSTEN DUNST DISCUSSES SPIDER-MAN FOLLOWING SHOWEST HONOR

At a press conference following receiving the ShoWest Female Star of the Year award, actress Kirsten Dunst told reporters how the character of Mary Jane Watson has changed. ”I really have evolved as an actress and as a person from one to three, so for me, the role has grown with me,” explained Dunst. ”She’s always a woman searching and she’s always been someone that at that time of my life I could relate to.  In this film, because we’re older and the relationships are deeper than we’ve seen in the last two, it’s only made all of our roles so much more meaningful to all of us.  We never rest on our laurels with these films, we always try to make it better, and I think it’ll really show in this third one.”

As for the question on everyone’s mind - what does the future hold for Spider-Man? ”Well, I think Sam [Raimi] has dedicated so much of his life, like more than ten years, to the Spider-Man franchise with so much passion and love, the man is burnt out at this time,” Dunst told reporters. ”I think he needs a long vacation to put his creativity towards something else and then maybe we’ll revisit it.  I told Sam that we should do a Spider-Man 4 that’s completely low budget - Evil Dead style - where Mary Jane has eight children with very little special effects and then we’ll get a whole new audience. We’d make a lot of money, because it wouldn’t cost as much and everyone would go see it.” And what of the rumor Sony Pictures may move forward on another Spider-Man film without director Sam Raimi at the helm? ”Do they want to give Sam Raimi a heart attack?  That’s evil.  Sorry, that’s not happening any time soon.  I would just say no for Sam’s sake so that he can have a break.  We would all do it together because Sam, Tobey and I are a team now, but there’s no way it’s going to happen very soon.  I just can’t imagine that.  We don’t have the story to tell right now.”

Spider-Man 3 star Kirsten Dunst will be honored at this year’s ShoWest as female star of the year.  ShoWest is the annual convention held in Las Vegas which allows studios to show off their upcoming slate of films to exhibitors.

“Since her big-screen debut at the age of seven, Kirsten Dunst has delivered a remarkable array of captivating performances throughout her career,” said Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of ShoWest.  “After bursting onto the scene with her breakout role in Interview With the Vampire, Dunst has gone on to critical and blockbuster success with movies such as Little Women, Bring It On, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Elizabethtown, Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2.”

Dunst will be presented with the honor during the March 15th closing-night ceremonies.

TOBEY MAGUIRE WOULD CONSIDER FOURTH SPIDER-MAN FILM

Spider-Man 3 star Tobey Maguire recently spoke with iFMagazine about bringing a darker tone to the character of Peter Parker/Spider-Man for the third film.  “This is something [director] Sam [Raimi] and I worked a lot on, because we don’t want to lose the audience caring for the character, but we do want to push it,” says Maguire.  ”We don’t want to make it too scary, we want it to be dark, but still have some humor and some fun with it.  So we’re constantly working on the exact tone of it.  I had a lot of fun doing it as an actor.  There’s a different side of Peter Parker…I had a good time doing that.  It was more of an internal battle.  Building his story arc was fun in terms of the villains outside of myself, I think they are all so different and I appreciate them for what they are.  Sandman was a villain from the comic books that I always wanted to see in a Spider-Man movie.  I was really excited about that.  I think we tied him into Peter’s story line very well.  Harry Osborn - that was the cliffhanger from the second movie.  That one was probably the most emotional.”

As for the possibility of a fourth film, Maguire says, “I’ve had a great time doing them, I’ve enjoyed it and I’m glad I’ve done all three movies.  We may make more of them or a fourth one, if there’s a story worth telling and a right team of actors and Sam is on board, then I would consider doing a fourth one.”

Spider-Man 3 Movie Plot and Cast info
Peter Parker has finally managed to strike a balance between his devotion to M.J. and his duties as a superhero. But there is a storm brewing on the horizon. Under the influence of the suit, Peter becomes overconfident and starts to neglect the people who care for him most. Forced to choose between the seductive power of the new suit and the compassionate hero he used to be, Peter must overcome his personal demons as two of the most-feared villains yet, Sandman and Venom, gather unparalleled power and a thirst for retribution to threaten Peter and everyone he loves.
